Nashville Oktoberfest | October 1–4
October kicks off with one of Nashville’s biggest fall traditions. Nashville Oktoberfest returns October 1–4, bringing German food, live music, vendors, beer, a 5K, contests and the always-popular Dachshund Derby to the Bicentennial Capitol Mall and Germantown area.
It’s also a great excuse to spend some time in Germantown, one of Nashville’s most established neighborhoods for dining, architecture and easy access to downtown.
Nashville Cultural Festival | October 3
Centennial Park hosts the Nashville Cultural Festival on October 3, a free celebration featuring music, dance, food and traditions representing cultures from around the world.
With Centennial Park as the backdrop, it’s an easy addition to a fall weekend spent exploring the West End area.
A Big Month for Nashville Concerts
October is packed with live music, and some of Nashville’s biggest venues have major shows on the calendar.
The month begins with Miranda Lambert opening The Truth, Nashville’s new 4,400-seat music venue in Wedgewood-Houston, on October 1. The new venue will also welcome The Chicks later in the month.
At Bridgestone Arena, October includes Johnny Blue Skies & The Dark Clouds on October 2, Weezer on October 9, Phoebe Bridgers on October 10 and 11, Rod Wave on October 14 and Teddy Swims on October 16.
Over at the Ryman Auditorium, the calendar includes Ryan Beatty, Tom Jones and an extended Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit residency, among many others.
With shows happening throughout the month at The Pinnacle, The Truth, Ryman Auditorium, Bridgestone Arena and venues across the city, October is an especially good month to take advantage of Nashville’s live music scene.
Nashville Symphony
October also brings a full calendar to the Nashville Symphony at Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
Highlights include Top Gun: Maverick In Concert on October 7 and A Close Encounter with the Music of John Williams on October 8 and 9, along with classical performances throughout the month.
Dinner downtown followed by a performance at the Schermerhorn is one of our favorite ways to spend a fall evening in Nashville.
Fall Ball Y’all | October 10
For a family-friendly Saturday, Fall Ball Y’all returns to the Nashville Farmers’ Market on October 10.
Expect live music, pony rides, a petting zoo, cooking demonstrations, kids’ activities, fall produce and local vendors.
While you’re there, make time to walk through the Farmers’ Market or head over to nearby Germantown for lunch or dinner.
Southern Festival of Books | October 17–18
One of Nashville’s longest-running cultural events returns October 17–18.
The Southern Festival of Books brings more than 200 authors to downtown Nashville for readings, panel discussions, book signings and conversations. The festival is free and takes place around War Memorial Plaza and the Nashville Public Library.
Light the Nations | October 17
Head to The Nations on October 17 for Light the Nations, an annual neighborhood celebration along 51st Avenue North featuring local businesses, art, vendors, food trucks and live entertainment.
It’s also a chance to explore one of Nashville’s evolving west-side neighborhoods and the local restaurants and businesses that have made it a destination of its own.
Fall at Cheekwood
You don’t need a specific event date to enjoy fall in Nashville.
Cheekwood Harvest runs throughout October, transforming the gardens for the season with more than 100,000 pumpkins, pumpkin houses and expansive fall displays. Thursday evenings also bring Harvest Nights through October 29, with illuminated garden walks, live music, seasonal food and other activities.
It’s one of those Nashville fall traditions that works just as well for a family afternoon as it does for an evening out.
Pumpkin Patches and Fall Festivals Near Nashville
If pumpkins, corn mazes and hayrides are more your speed, October is the month to get outside.
Lucky Ladd Farms Pumpkin Patch Fall Harvest Festival runs through October 31 with a pumpkin patch, corn maze, fall treats and family activities. The Nashville Fall Festival also continues through November 1 with a corn maze, sunflower field, pumpkin patch and hayrides along the South Harpeth River.
These are especially good options when you want to get beyond downtown and spend a fall afternoon exploring Middle Tennessee.
