Babychan

Babychan, a Japanese-inspired all-day bakery and café, is set to open in Spring 2025 at the Neuhoff development in Germantown. The concept, brought to life by chefs Brian Lea and Leina Horii— the husband-and-wife duo behind the James Beard-nominated Kisser— in partnership with Strategic Hospitality, will combine technique-driven pastries, a full menu, and a beverage program offering beer, wine, sake, as well as a curated selection of coffee and tea.

Drawing inspiration from both Japanese and French café cultures, Babychan will feature a variety of sweet and savory breakfast and lunch options. Highlights include French toast made with Horii’s house-made Japanese milk bread, a range of sandwiches and pastries, a rotating selection of ice creams, and nostalgic childhood favorites like katsu sandwiches, curry pan, and rice omelets. Guests can enjoy pastries and onigiri at the takeaway counter, dine in a cozy indoor setting, or relax in the open-air seating area.

Named after a childhood nickname Horii’s mother gave her, "Babychan" (a blend of English and Japanese meaning "Little Baby") reflects an evolution of Lea and Horii’s original vision, expanding beyond the ideas they began at Kisser and into a space with a larger footprint.
